Jon "Bones" Jones became the youngest champion in UFC history and on his road to the title defeated opponents such as Stephan Bonnar, Ryan Bader, Brandon Vera, and Mauricio Shogun Rua. Combining excellent striking and a dominant ground game, Jones has given trouble to anyone who steps into the cage with him.

Jones successfully defended his title agains Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 135 and was expected to face Rashad Evans next. However, Lyoto Machida will be given the title shot against the young champion at UFC 140.
